RSVP here to join our first membership meeting as Amalgamated UAW Local 4100 at 6:30pm tonight!
We are excited to announce that the UAW International Executive Board voted yesterday to approve our petition to amalgamate with unionized researchers at Columbia, as part of UAW 4100! SPOC and Columbia Postdoctoral Workers are now officially a part of the same local union, which allows us to share resources and fight together for improved working conditions for researchers across NYC, while also retaining our autonomy to make decisions at a local level.
We are currently working with our fellow union members at Columbia to draft bylaws that will provide a governance structure for both SPOC and CPW. Once the bylaws are approved, SPOC will elect union stewards, who will represent postdocs and help with contract enforcement on more local levels across campus.
Local 4100’s monthly membership meeting is today at 6:30pm. The agenda will be to announce our amalgamation, introduce Sinai postdoc members, and provide updates from various committees including Bylaws and Elections. The meeting will take place virtually on Zoom and in person, both on the Columbia Morningside campus in Fairchild Building, Room 700, and the Medical Campus, VP&S Building, 12th floor conference room. Some Sinai postdocs will join virtually from the Atran 5th floor conference room. Please RSVP here to attend!
