A supermajority of Sinai postdocs have now signed up to become Union members! Years of strong majority support gave us the power to win our first contract, and strong majority membership gives us power to enforce our new rights and fight for more improvements. This also means that hundreds of postdocs across Sinai will be able to participate in our Union, ensuring that our decision making will represent the majority who work here. Sign up here to help talk to coworkers about membership and build Union power.
Columbia Postdoctoral Workers-United Auto Workers 4100 voted overwhelmingly “Yes” to amalgamate with us last week! Amalgamating, or becoming part of one local Union, would allow us to share resources and fight together for improved working conditions for researchers across New York City. Next, the UAW International Executive Board will review our petition to amalgamate. Once it is approved, we will elect a committee who will draft and propose amended union bylaws, which will outline topics related to union governance for both units. We will be in touch about these next steps soon.
Postdocs have been working proactively to address workplace issues and grievances under our contract. Since winning our contract in December, organizers have already successfully supported a number of colleagues with enforcing our union rights. If you are facing an issue at work, please don’t hesitate to reach out as soon as possible by emailing organizing@sinaipostdocunion.org. If you want to get involved in supporting co-workers facing workplace issues, reply to this email and an organizer will reach out.
A few more updates on contract implementation:
