Let us know why you support forming a Union at Mount Sinai!
We are excited to announce that an overwhelming 80% of Postdocs have now signed authorization cards in support of Sinai Postdoctoral Organizing Committee-UAW as our Union, and today we filed our petition with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) to have an official vote to form our Union.
This afternoon we delivered an Open Letter to Sinai signed by Postdocs from departments where over 90% of us work, calling on them to remain neutral and meet with us to discuss a fair and efficient process for verifying our majority support. Read the letter here.
Later, we got together to file our formal petition for a union election with the Labor Board online. This election will give all of us the opportunity to vote to form our union. Once a majority votes “yes”, we will elect a bargaining committee made up of Postdocs, decide on our shared priorities democratically, and start negotiations with Mount Sinai.
We hope Sinai chooses to refrain from any efforts to persuade Postdocs to vote “no” on unionization or to delay the process. We will make sure to keep everyone updated as we move forward with these next steps.
